Immediately after you get to camp, the first thing to do is to look for where camp registration is being done. 

Here is a list of documents you should get ready for before stepping into camp:

  • The original of your institution’s statement of results and at least 1–3 photocopies of it
  • Your original school’s student identity card (ID card) and four (4) photocopies front and back.
  • Eight (8) recent passport photographs of you
  • Original and four (4) photocopies of your call-up letter 
  • Original and four (4) photocopies of your green card
  • Original medical certificate of fitness from a recognized hospital with 2–3 photocopies.
  • 1 or 2 office flat files

Required NYSC Kits for Camp

If you are reporting to NYSC orientation camp, you go with the following clothes:

  • Go along with two (2) plain white round-neck vests and two (2) white shorts. But not compulsory, because Nysc usually provides 1 pair of them.
  • A pair of white canvas
  • Bedsheets
  • Mosquito net (very important because of mosquitoes in camp, but not compulsory)
  • A pair or two white socks
  • Underwear and singlets
  • House clothes for attending a mosque or church in camp
  • Thick jacket in case of cold season 

TOILETRIES:

  • Bathing soap, detergent, sponge, and sponge case
  • Bleach (jik or hypo)
  • Antiseptics and disinfectants are to be used in bathing water.

  • Cutlery, including a bowl, plate, spoon, and cup, for camp food collection.

No, you don’t need to sew your NYSC khaki at home before coming to the NYSC camp. NYSC usually issues all corps members with one pair of khaki uniforms, which are usually large in size. You may need to amend it with camp tailors at the NYSC camp mammy market for some amount. However, if you wish to sew your NYSC khaki at home, you can do so at your own will.

Is cooking allowed in the NYSC camp?

No, cooking is not allowed in camps by corps members. The only day cooking is allowed in camps by corps members is the NYSC’s carnival day, where every platoon will partake in a cooking competition, which is usually done with firewood outside corps members’ hostels.
