About the Research Team:
The Research Team at Cloudflare is at the forefront of innovation, working on strategic projects that have a significant impact on Cloudflare systems and the Internet at large. With a focus on connecting and protecting users, applications, and data, the team tackles complex problems in scalable security, privacy, and systems. From collaborating with academia to contributing to Internet standards organizations, the Research Team is committed to advancing the Internet’s capabilities while ensuring its safety and integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in systems engineering, open-source software development, and protocol design to solve security, performance, and privacy challenges at scale.
- Contribute to cutting-edge research projects in collaboration with academia and industry partners.
- Develop and implement novel techniques to measure and improve the performance and reliability of Cloudflare infrastructure.
- Explore ways to enhance Internet infrastructure and promote fair and equitable governance through standards bodies and open implementations.
- Participate in efforts to reduce personal data and metadata on the Internet to protect user privacy and comply with data protection regulations.
- Research and develop innovative solutions to protect Cloudflare’s infrastructure and customers from cyber threats, including DDoS attacks and bot detection.
General Intern Requirements:
- Interest in solving open-ended problems and willingness to learn.
- Proven track record of research or contributions to open-source software.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Rust, and JavaScript.
- Experience with continuous integration workflows and source control (e.g., git).
- Strong systems-level programming skills and debugging abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively and share knowledge effectively.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge or experience in computer networking protocols, machine learning, cryptography, or distributed systems.
- Experience with high throughput/low latency real-time systems and content delivery networks (bonus).
