Role Overview:
As a Surgical Tech intern at AdventHealth, you will work under the guidance of surgeons and registered nurses, contributing to operative procedures by organizing and inventorying sterile setups, preparing patients, and sterilizing instruments and equipment. Your role will involve assisting the surgical team, ensuring the smooth flow of procedures, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize physician preference cards to identify necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled surgical procedures.
  • Set up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions required for each procedure.
  • Prepare solutions and medications, ensuring proper labeling and reporting for documentation purposes.
  • Assist in draping the sterile field and covering operating and instrument tables.
  • Perform accurate counts with the circulating nurse before and after procedures.
  • Deliver surgical specimens and cultures to the circulating nurse from the operative field.
  • Maintain sterile technique throughout procedures, checking package integrity and indicators.
  • Assist in terminal cleaning of operating rooms and preparation for subsequent patients.
  • Anticipate potential problems or complications during procedures and adjust workflow accordingly.
  • Adapt to changing technologies, policies, regulations, and staffing needs, prioritizing workload effectively.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current registration as a Surgical Tech (Department of Regulatory Agencies) or equivalent clinical Colorado license, certification, or registration

Preferred:

  • Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program
  • One year of experience in a surgical setting
  • Experience in a specialty field
