In a strategic move to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure offerings, Nvidia has announced its acquisition of Run:ai, a leading AI infrastructure orchestration and management platform. The deal, valued at approximately $700 million, marks Nvidia’s largest acquisition in Israel since its purchase of Mellanox in 2019.
Run:ai, founded in 2018 by Omri Geller and Dr. Ronen Dar, has developed a Kubernetes-based container platform tailored to the unique needs of AI workloads running on GPUs and similar chipsets. The platform efficiently pools and shares GPUs, automatically assigning the necessary computing power for optimal performance.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen Nvidia’s position in the AI market, enabling enterprise customers to manage and optimize their compute infrastructure more effectively. Run:ai’s solutions are already integrated with various Nvidia products, including NVIDIA DGX, NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, NVIDIA Base Command, NGC containers, and NVIDIA AI Enterprise software.
Nvidia has committed to continuing Run:ai’s product offerings under the same business model, with plans to invest in the product roadmap as part of NVIDIA DGX Cloud. This move will provide NVIDIA DGX and DGX Cloud customers with access to Run:ai’s capabilities, particularly for large language model deployments.
The acquisition highlights Nvidia’s growing presence in Israel, where its local R&D center has expanded by 100% since the Mellanox acquisition. The company’s Israeli R&D centers, led by Amit Krig, are focused on developing next-generation technologies in areas such as networking, CPU design, autonomous vehicles, AI-based cyber-security, and more.
With a market capitalization of over $2.1 trillion, Nvidia is solidifying its position as a leader in the AI and technology industries. The acquisition of Run:ai is expected to further enhance its capabilities, enabling customers to make the most of their infrastructure and drive innovation in AI research and development.
