Requirements
- Completed Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate from a recognized institution.
- 1-2 years of experience in inpatient Geriatric/Rehab or Long-Term Care.
- Experience with patients with cognitive impairment/dementia and responsive behaviors is preferred.
- Knowledge of infection control practices.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and development.
About the Role
As a Personal Support Worker at NYGH’s Reactivation Care Centre, you’ll be providing essential personal care to residents, assisting nursing personnel with daily living activities, and performing specific treatments as directed. You will have the opportunity to build trusting relationships with elderly patients and contribute to their wellbeing in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing personal care, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Supporting patients’ independence, dignity, and emotional well-being.
- Assisting with nutrition and hydration intake, and providing preventative skin care.
- Carrying out duties in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Performing direct and indirect patient care activities as part of the interprofessional care plan.
