Snowy Weekend Forecast: Quebec Braces for Widespread Snowfall and Travel Disruptions

Get ready for a snowy end to the weekend in Quebec, as widespread snowfall blankets the region. Snowfall warnings are in effect for areas north of the St. Lawrence River, with heavy snow expected to persist into Sunday evening.

If you’re hitting the road, be sure to plan ahead and anticipate slow travel conditions and slick roads due to the snow. Keep a close eye on changing road conditions, especially on Sunday, and consider adjusting your travel plans accordingly.

On Sunday, expect steady snowfall across southern and eastern Quebec, with Montreal and the Eastern Townships likely experiencing heavy snow rates early in the day. As the day progresses, the heaviest snowfall will move towards Quebec City, while Montreal and the Eastern Townships will continue to see periods of snow into the evening.

Temperatures around Montreal are expected to remain cold enough for the precipitation to stay as snow, potentially resulting in significant accumulations of up to 10 cm in downtown Montreal and even more on the North Shore. The Laurentians are likely to see much heavier accumulations, with 20-40 cm expected by Monday.

Looking ahead, early next week will bring cooler-than-normal conditions, followed by a brief warm-up before another system arrives late in the week or over the weekend. However, a colder pattern is anticipated around the official start of spring, with below-normal temperatures persisting into early April.
